Alliances are formed for many reasons, either to solidify one’s ranking or to increase the chances of reaching the top eventually. In the virtual world, agreements are forged between and among the various players in order to maximize their coverage, reach their target customers and produce higher revenues.
Yahoo has recently closed an agreement with Bebo.com for the former’s advertisements requirements. The deal involved putting in strategic places within the social networking website Yahoo’s ads and promotions. In essence, Bebo.com will act as an advertising platform since its users are bound to log in to check their respective pages everyday. This partnership comes on the heels of similar agreements between Google and MySpace, as well as Microsoft and Facebook.
Although considered small compared to its peers, Bebo.com’s strength lies on the fact that it ranks number one in Ireland and in the United Kingdom . In a report released by Nielsen NetRatings covering Britain for the month of August, Bebo.com posted roughly 345 million in terms of ‘ad impressions’ as it has the ability to ensure that its user base look at the ads that are provided their way. Facebook is second with 318 million while MySpace registered only 280 million.
